These ‘flora-fur’ jackets are handmade using botanical fibers and silk in an original process using natural dyes, matching the beauty of the materials with my designs.
From top left clockwise, the jackets are: banana and milk fiber with a persimmon stain, the lining dyed with alkanet; bamboo fibers and logwood dye, the lining dyed with hollyhock; seaweed fiber, the lining dyed with safflower; rose fiber made blue with woad, the lining dyed from weld .
Each fiber and dye has its own particular character that impacts the design. The growing range of natural fibers now available have a much longer history, often founded in indigenous cultures, than the fashion industry acknowledges.
